Some 300 years ago, monks in the Schwaben region of southwest Germany received a large piece of meat during Lent. Since eating it would be a sin and discarding it would likewise be a sin, they decided to wrap the meat in pasta dough so God couldn't see it. The dish they inadvertently created was called "maultaschen," which translates from German as "cheat God."...
